HRSRH New Physician Spotlight
– Dr. Andrew Pearce
The Regional Cancer Program (RCP) is delighted to welcome Dr. Andrew Pearce who recently came to the HRSRH as a new Radiation Oncologist. A native of Lively, ON, Dr. Pearce studied biochemistry at Laurentian University, ultimately graduating with a Master of Science degree. He worked extensively in the RCP Research Program during this time with Dr. Hoyun Lee. “Our work focused on resistance to radiation in Breast Cancer cells, and this helped foster my early interest in radiation oncology as a career,” says Dr. Pearce.
Dr. Pearce received his MD at the University of Toronto (with honors), and spent a significant amount of time at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Odette Cancer Centre publishing research into the effects of prostate cancer treatment on quality of life. He did his residency training in Radiation Oncology in Calgary, Alberta, serving a term as Chief Resident. Dr. Pearce has published papers and presented research at multiple international meetings regarding brachytherapy and the treatment of prostate cancer.
According to Acting Chief of Staff Dr. Chris Bourdon, “Andrew’s recruitment means an increase in capacity for radiation oncology in the region, which is excellent news for patients. It also stands as a testament to the value of having a strong research program, for which we must thank our Northern Cancer Research Foundation, and our many talented and dedicated researchers, led by our Research Director, Dr. Parissenti.”
