Clinical research has been conducted at the Regional Cancer Program (RCP) for many years. This research has incorporated studies offered through cooperative oncology research groups, pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as in-house designed research. The research has ranged in size from smaller phase II trials to large international multi-centre phase III trials. Often phase IV trials are also offered in order for patients to potentially have access to new drugs that are not yet funded.
Clinical trials are usually available for all the major disease sites such as breast, lung, prostate and colorectal cancer. The RCP also attempts to offer trials in many other disease sites. (Follow this link to see trials that are open at the RCP. Type in “Sudbury” for the location.)
Some of the major cooperative groups we are affiliated with are the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group (NCIC CTG), Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and the Ontario Clinical Oncology Group (OCOG). These affiliations enable access to some of the most innovative and newest treatment trials available.
If patients would like to know more about clinical trials they may contact the Clinical Research office at the Regional Cancer Program.
