Official Opening Celebration Held for Children’s Treatment Centre
Sudbury --- A celebration was held today at the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital (HRSRH) to welcome the Children’s Treatment Centre (CTC) to its new location at the one-site acute care hospital.
“The CTC is an inspiring place - a place of learning and of helping the most precious members of our community and their families,” said HRSRH President and CEO Dr. Denis Roy. “The CTC’s mission is to help clients strive for the best quality of life and health, to enhance their self-esteem, and increase their independence and community participation,” he added.
The CTC is a family-centred community-based rehabilitation facility providing assessment, treatment, consultation and education to children and young adults (0-19 years) with motor and communication impairments. On an annual basis, the CTC serves approximately 2000 children in northeastern Ontario, with challenges such as cerebral palsy, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, autism spectrum disorder, and other genetic anomalies.
“Our government is committed to meeting the health needs of children and youth. This new permanent site will provide better access to services and support for families in our community,” stated Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci.
According to Dr. Sean Murray, Medical Director of the HRSRH Family and Child Program, the new surroundings will be of great benefit the CTC’s clients. “Children, especially many of the children we see, are very sensitive to their surroundings. It helps in the response to their treatments and therapy,” he explained.
The CTC was situated at the former Laurentian Hospital from 1976-1987, when it moved to the St-Jerome Street site. “We are absolutely delighted to be back. We have many great memories, but this truly feels like a home coming,” enthused CTC Clinical Manager Sally Spence.
