Ambulatory Care Services

The Ambulatory Care Unit provides out patient services on an elective and urgent basis. Clients included from pediatrics to geriatrics. The out patient clinics service the population of Sudbury as well as northeastern Ontario.

Medical and surgical care (diagnostic and therapeutic) is provided in the specialty areas of:

  • orthopedics
  • urology
  • plastic surgery
  • general surgery
  • ophthalmology
  • gynecology
  • ears nose and throat (ENT)
  • internal medicine
  • thoracic and vascular surgery.

Nephrology (Dialysis)

The Regional Nephrology Program is accountable for the provision of dialysis services to all patients in its network, and maintaining quality and operating standards.

The program is comprised of a network of services including a regional hospital centre, six satellite dialysis units located at host hospitals throughout the region, home dialysis (peritoneal and hemodialysis), and an affiliation with London Health Sciences Centre for renal transplantation. 


Laboratory Services

The HRSRH laboratory performs approximately 3.7 million tests a year, of which 10% are referred into the hospital and 40% performed for outpatients (including renal, oncology and other clinics).

 The laboratory includes:

  • Cytology,
  • Hematology
  • Transfusion Medicine
  • Microbiology
  • and Histology/Pathology.

Also included is the Genetics Laboratory, part of the Northern Regional Genetics Program (NRGP), which provides genetic testing for northeastern and northwestern Ontario in the areas of cancer, reproductive problems, genetic syndromes, congenital malformations and prenatal diagnosis.


Pharmacy Services

Pharmacy services are provided across all hospital sites and include a comprehensive scope of clinical and medication distribution functions, such as centralized intravenous admixture and total parenteral nutrition support service, unit dose medication preparation, drug information, pharmacokinetic drug monitoring and medication reconciliation development.

The diversity of regional clinical programs provided by the HRSRH promotes the involvement of Pharmacy in unique areas of service and patient clinics, including chemotherapy admixture for oncology outpatients and inpatients, anticoagulation clinic, cystic fibrosis clinic, nephrology, and emergency and trauma care.

A robotics unit dose packaging facility to support full unit dose and hospital-wide automated medication distribution units, bedside medication verification, and computerized order entry are Pharmacy’s vision for service in the one-site hospital.


HAVEN (HIV/AIDS Clinic)

The HAVEN Program is an outpatient clinic that provides a confidential team approach to care for those who are infected with HIV and who live in northeastern Ontario.

The program also assists partners/families/friends of those affected by HIV. Services include HIV medical care, nursing care, emotional support and counselling, advice and teaching abut HIV drugs, nutrition counselling, information about HIV, specialized lab testing, research studies and consultation with other health care providers.

Diabetes Education and Care

The Diabetes Education and Care program provides self-management education and support to people living with diabetes. The multi disciplinary team of nurses, dietitians and social worker provides instruction on nutrition, exercise, insulin management, blood glucose monitoring and many other health topics.

Oupatient Nutrition Counseling

The Outpatient Nutrition Counselling Program provides therapeutic nutrition counselling to children and adults with nutrition-related diseases/disorders. Dietitians provide expert nutrition education to individuals and families.

Hemophilia

The Hemophilia Program provides support and education to individuals living with inherited bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia and Von Willebrand’s disease.

The team of health professionals includes a nurse coordinator, hematologist, social worker and physiotherapist, who work together to help patients manage their condition and provide them with the best available treatment options.
