Paediatric Oncology
Your Treatment

We offer different types of treatment at the Regional Cancer Program (RCP). Your child’s cancer doctor (Paediatric Oncologist) at either the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto or the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, will decide which type of treatment is best for your child. Our role is to give as much of the care your child needs as possible, closer to your home.

Meeting your Treatment Team:
Paediatrician
The RCP Paediatrician, your Paediatric Oncologist, your local paediatrician/family physician will all be involved in your child’s care.

Paediatric Oncology Nurse
The Paediatric Oncology Nurse at the RCP will provide the nursing care that your child will require, such as:
  • giving the chemotherapy
  • central line care (care of the fixed tubing placed into a large vein for giving the drugs or taking and receiving blood)
  • blood transfusions
  • follow-up care
This nurse will coordinate your child’s plan of care with your SickKids or CHEO team.  The nurse is an important source of support and information. The nurse can answer your questions about your child’s treatment, help you get more information material about your child’s illness and treatment, and help you find other support services.

Please schedule all clinic appointments through the Paediatric Oncology Nurse.
