Systemic (Chemo) Therapy
Your Medical Oncology Team
Your Medical Oncologist is a doctor who is an expert in diagnosing your cancer and treating it with drugs (chemotherapy). This doctor will choose the best drugs for your treatment and then closely follow the results.

Your Primary Nurse works with your oncologist in planning your treatment and providing support.

Your Chemotherapy Nurse is specially trained to give your intravenous chemotherapy. Your nurses can answer your questions, whether they are about your treatment or obtaining more information about other support services.

Pharmacists can help you understand any side effects or drug-related problems that might occur during treatment.
Systemic (Chemo) Therapy

Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to
damage the cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs
stop cancer cells from dividing into more cancer
cells, or prevent them from growing.

Chemotherapy treatments are usually repeated
over a period of months, to damage as many cancer cells as possible. Sometimes your treatment will use only one chemotherapy drug, but it is more common to take several drugs that work together to destroy cancer cells.
